Tony Bottomley
It is with great sadness that we must inform you all of the passing of our long standing first team manager and club talisman Tony Bottomley.
Tony did so much for the club over the years and played a huge role in getting us to where we are now. He had massive influence not only at St Albans Centurions but in grassroots rugby as a whole, he poured his energy into the sport to help it grow and develop wherever he went.
He was rugby league through and through and will be deeply missed by all. We have lost a legend but the legacy he has left will always be in the heart of the Centurions.
Rest in Peace - Tony Bottomley
"Today we have lost an absolute champion and legend Tony Bottomley. You are Mr rugby league for what you have done for me, St Albans Centurions and for rugby league across England, Europe and South Africa. I will forever be grateful to have spent 8 great years working with you. Rest easy my friend the world has lost a true gentleman."
"What can you say about Tony. He was Mr Rugby League, he loved the game and those who played it. I doubt very much if there is anyone out there that has done so much for our game, over so many years, on so many different levels. RIP Tony, The Greatest Game will miss you."
"Tony was the heartbeat of the South African Wild Dogs and always bent over backwards to accommodate everyone...His endless effort, dedication and his cheeky smile was never unnoticed and he always did it quietly with a whole lot of pride. The world has lost a true gentleman"
"Tony was rugby league through and through. He poured his energy into the sport to help it grow and develop wherever he went. Most recently many of us will remember him from his ever presence on touchlines around the region following either St Albans Centurions Rugby League or Cambridge University Rugby League Football Club, his clip board and pen always making his players accountable for their work rate!
He was one of the nicest guys you could hope to meet in life, let alone Rugby League."
"It has been a pleasure to know and work with Tony over the past 8 years in many different spheres of the rugby league World. You will be sorely missed my friend. Love to his family and all the clubs he has been involved in over the years!
The sport has lost a legend"
