MASTERS RUGBY LEAGUE
Over 35 and fancy a run out?
Then play for the Grey Cents
If you’re 35 or over then Masters Rugby League is the game for you!
Masters is strictly a social version of the game of rugby league and the rules are slightly modified to cater for the older player - the colour of the shorts indicate if you can be tackled or not. There are no winners, no champions and no cup finals. Masters is about is the spirit of the game. The most important rule is: “everyone has to buy a drink for their opposite number.” St Albans Centurions have a masters team, and Cents co-ordinator Mick O'Shea says " Our intention is to get some more games in the coming months and years, the idea being to space out games every one or two months through the year. It keeps the body active and allows favourite stories of yesteryear to be aired in the changing rooms as well as creating yet more stories on game day!! We will definitely need more players, as to play Masters like this requires a bigger squad to allow for unavailability and so on – I would urge anyone who may be interested in playing, officiating or just helping out or watching, to get in touch. There is a growing Masters circuit in the South East and games are always played in a great, non-competitive (well almost always!) and convivial way; I can guarantee you’ll meet some like-minded folk and make some new friends!!! If you fancy a run out every month or so, then please contact Mick O'Shea at [email protected] or call him on Mobile: 07989898842 for further details. |
Cents Masters sponsor prospect
St Albans Centurions Masters are proud to sponsor David Slater, of the London Broncos Reserves and Academy. In an outrageous gambit, St Albans Centurions Masters collectively decided to sponsor up and coming hotshot David Slater, who's dad, Jamie, plays for us (in his glasses!). David has a pedigree at both Hemel Stags and Harpenden RFC and is making Big Waves in London. One to Watch! Match report from Centurions Masters vs Kimpton Vees St Albans Centurions Masters played Kimpton on a hot Sunday afternoon. Both teams went at each other with some great passages of interplay and the tries that resulted were superb. The game was, of course, played at a fully operational Colosseum and Head Chef Tony Hellawell ensured that all the troops were fed after. New player John Thompson who had read about us online, turned up and instantly became part of the Bigger Rugby Family. Brilliant stuff! Cheers to Simon McCullough for organising the Kimpton team who were superb guests. (Thank you for the Photos Larisa O'Shea!) |
