Cents held their Annual General Meeting on Thursday 7th February. In accordance with the rules, all the committee members stood down and were re elected to their positions.
Club finances, reports from the RFL, running the club and different aspects of the season ahead were all discussed. To keep it brief, here is a very concise breakdown of the things discussed- The Cents will play in the East League. Bedford A, North Herts Knights A, St Ives, Brentwood, Luton and ourselves will be in this league. Hemel A have not made their mind up where they will be playing in 2018 pending the arrival of their new coach. We haven't heard what Southend have decided as yet and Milton Keynes Wolves have folded. The season starts on May 11th and ends on August 10th. There will be a league cup and shield built into the fixtures. Cup & Shield Final will be held on 20th July. August and September will be for rep rugby. Depending on how many teams we have committing to the league will depend on what format the fixtures take. Fixtures should be released on 6th March. Players now have to re-sign or sign up for the first time with the club via the League Net site. This can be found on the drop down menu as 'Senior Player Self Registration'. Any problems, get in touch with club secretary Tony Bottomley. Every club have to have a qualified first aider present at all games, that is one per team. The Cents always try and have one of our wonderful physios present, but if anyone wants to volunteer to be a 'stand by' first aider, then please speak to a committee member. The Registration Evening will be held at our clubhouse on Thursday 18th April, arriving about 7pm for a 7-30pm start. We still call it a registration evening even though players now have to register on line and it sounds better than a Give Us Your Money Evening. If you have any problems registering, we will be able to help you on the night. The registration fee is now £125 per player and £85 for students ( you don't even have to bring cash, we now accept cards.) We will be meeting and greeting at this event, probably having another of our great quiz nights, so please bring your better halves or family members with you and if we have it in time, great quantities of stash to be handed out. New players and returning 'old boys' are always welcome. We are playing in the same strip as last season, but have ordered several larger shirts and shorts for our more 'muscular' players. Lots of other stuff to do with the running of the club was discussed but the more interesting points are shown above. Next committee meeting is 7pm on Friday 15th March, As always, all welcome. St Albans Centurions are looking to increase their junior section. We had a real swell in numbers and interest in 2018, but limited resources meant we could only run an U14 side.
Juniors head coach Gary Tetlow said "This year the junior season runs from March to July and we want to run three teams at U14, U15 and U16 level. Qualified coaches will be on hand and we will be running a 'taster session' of rugby league on 2nd March that is open to all." Gary continued "The boys love the dynamism and simplicity of rugby league, and playing in the sunshine helps as well. We offer excellent coaching skills in a fun but challenging environment, and being involved in a league format means competitive games." Interested?
