History was made last weekend when Serbia RL national team played Turkey RL in Turkeys first ever international rugby league game. Also the Serbian U19 team won the European U19's shield after beating Ireland, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Italy.
So, you may ask, what has this to with The Cents, well St Albans phsio Len McMain was the team physio for both the Serbian senior and U19's team. Len reports back that he had a great time there, was looked after very well and the standard of rugby played by the Serbs was very encouraging. St Albans Centurions held their end of season awards evening on Saturday, and it was a bit of a surprise that the six award categories were won by just three players.
These were - Man Of Steel & Players Player Awards - Alex Powdrell Top Try Scorer & Top Goal Kicker - Jake Lawrence Most Improved Player & Coaches Award - Phil Hughes The speeches were short, the food and banter were good and the awards were well deserved. Although the playing season is over, there is a lot of work still going on behind the scenes, so keep checking in to this website to stay in touch with what is going on. St Albans Centurions would like to send their best wishes to two of their longest serving players who are getting married this weekend - but not to each other. Joe Shaw, or Swede as he is known to his fellow players is marrying the beautiful Elle, and Kieran O'Shea is marrying the gorgeous Ola. Now we all know rugby league players and supporters are really soppy old things at heart, so all of us here at The Cents would like to say to both couples, 'We wish you lots of happy moments together and may friendship always stay in your marriage'.
All the best to the four of you from everyone at The Cents. |
