St Albans Centurions U16's opened their summer season of Rugby League on what was probably the coldest and windiest day in April when they took on London Skolars U16's at their 'Colosseum' home ground. The Skolars' senior side are a professional outfit, playing in Betfred League 1 so it was always going to be a tough fixture. Even with the gale like winds, the game was free flowing and end to end stuff. Skolars turned up to the occasion with big forwards crashing into the Cents defensive line again and again. The young Cents stepped up to the plate and weathered the Skolars' storm, with fierce counter attacks to stun the Skolars. The cents ran out comfortable winners in an outstanding team performance. Photos of the fierce encounter can be viewed on the Cents photo website. Good luck to Skolars for the remainder of the season, and the young Cents in keeping their high standards they have set themselves. After 15 years of running the St Albans Centurions website, Darryl Brown is stepping down as webmaster and handing it over to Andrew Spencer.
Darryl will still continue to run the very popular Cents Photo Website which features match day photos etc. Andrew, who famously scored his first try for Cents in his first senior game with his first touch of the ball, is taking over from today. Andrew said “I’d like to thank Darryl for his work running the website, as it has always looked excellent! I know the current team are very grateful for the work he has done over the years. I hope to continue producing a great website.” So, if anyone has anything that they think should go on the website, then from now on Andrew is the man to contact. Good luck Andrew. Players from our St Albans Centurions Masters team rubbed shoulders with some high end clubs when they made up a sizeable proportion of a 'Rest Of The World Xlll' when they played London Silverbacks Masters on Saturday. The game was played at London Skolars ground in between a Championship game (Toronto Wolfpack -v- Sheffield Eagles) and a League 1 game (London Skolars -v- Workington Town). After the game Cents Masters captain Mick O'Shea said "Thank you to everyone who turned out today to help make this game such a great match, from players to supporters. And a massive thanks to Stephen Lowrie for reffing. It was sometimes end to end stuff and sometimes close quarters but it was very enjoyable throughout. This day has expanded my horizons on what Masters teams are available in the South and I am keen to get more games organised for us with our new friends Aldershot Masters and Fleet Masters! Also Cheers to Chris Ashton and his Silverbacks for a very tight game, that ended, as is tradition, 0-0, and good luck with their upcoming tour of Canada." And as if that was not enough, Mick had a pre match chat with Toronto coach Brian McDermott (left) and gave him a few tips and pointers prior to their win over Sheffield. Two Cents related stories hit local newspapers and social media this week. First, above, Will Curtis, a Cents academy and current squad member has been called up into the Sale Sharks 'Jets' rugby union side, and right, Cents coach Simba Mupamhanga and some of the Cents players take a break from training and hold up 'myoddballs' posters to show their support for testicular cancer awareness month.
Well done everyone. |
