St Albans Centurions Under 13's opened their 2017 season with a friendly game against local rivals, Hemel Stags Under 13's on Saturday. In glorious sunshine the tries came thick and fast as both teams played some fine, open rugby. Photos from the game will be on our photos website on Sunday afternoon. At last nights registration evening the seniors playing strip for the 2017 season was revealed, above. For those with an interest in fashion, the colours are described as midnight black, canary yellow and electric blue, and apparently it is a lot brighter 'in the flesh',
St Albans Centurions are very pleased to announce that John McGuinness who runs the White Swan public house in Upper Dagnall Street, St Albans has continued to be the main club sponsor for the 2017 season. Johns very generous four figure sponsorship deal goes a long way to help this amateur club to continue. Cents new chairman, Andy Lake said "Once again we are thanking John and the White Swan for his generous sponsorship of our club. Not only did he match last years amount, but he increased it. He asks for nothing in return, just the knowledge that he is helping a sports club in his town to get on, but as a thank you, we always put his name on our playing shirt. Thank you once again John." Pre season training for the 2017 season will begin at 7.30pm on Wednesday 15th March and then every Wednesday after. The session will be run by our new head coach, Michael Hollister, ably assisted by his three evil henchmen, sorry ... assistant coaches, Joe Shaw, Roy Dube and Simba Mupamhanga. The first training sessions will be held under floodlights at OV's rugby club, St Albans, and then when the nights get shorter, at our ground at the Colosseum. There are big changes ahead for St Albans Centurions In 2017.
Long standing club man Brian Parker is stepping down onto the committee from his position as Chairman, and his place is being taken by Andy Lake. Brian will be sorely missed, as his leadership and drive has made the club what it is today, Brian has served the Cents well for many years and will be a hard act to follow. New chairman Andy Lake started off as a player, then club captain, then head coach and now he is in the Chairman's chair. We all wish Andy the very best and we know that with his pedigree in rugby league, he can steer the club to further success as his predecessor did. We also have a new head coach in Michael Hollister. Mike has been a loyal club man and player for many years and the committee were unanimous in offering him the post as coach. We hope you settle in quickly, Mike, and start producing the results. The club is combining the posts of first team manager and club secretary together - as a lot of their rolls overlap - and we are very pleased to say that 'Mr Rugby League' Tony Bottomley will be the man in charge. We could not ask for a better administrator than Tony. Dave Parsons and Sam Norris are staying put, in their positions as Club Treasurer and Sponsorship/Funding Manager respectively. And finally, after about eleven years of running this website, I too will shortly be standing down as webmaster. Mike Hollister has very kindly offered to act as temporary webmaster until a permanent one can be found ( Any volunteers??? Full training given. ) However, I will continue to take match day photos and put them on our photo site. Dan Steel from the London RFL has organised delivery of Rugby League coaching to some local St Albans primary schools - Yr 5 & Yr 6. This will culminate in a Cents mini open day on the 1st of April at Toulmin Drive, St Albans, between 10.30am -12pm on Saturday 1st April.
Coach Adam Skordi said " Turn up and have some fun. We welcome all levels, from absolute beginers to regular players.
