For the fourth season in a row, John McGuinness, owner of the White Swan pub in St Albans has become St Albans Centurions main club sponsor again. The photo shows Cents player Tim Rangihuna, receiving the cheque off John McGuinness, and Tim said "John is a great bloke and runs a great pub. To support our club like this for all these years shows his commitment and generosity. Thank you John." Centurions chairman Brian Parker, who was also present at the presentation said " Once again we thank John for his generosity and support. It is the character of the man that when he first sponsored us, he did not want any publicity about it, he just wanted to give something back to St Albans and thought that by supporting the Cents with their mini, junior and senior teams he could do just that. It was the club that put the 'White Swan' on our playing and training shirts as a way of thanking him." After their home games, the senior side always pop into the White Swan to tell John about the game and unwind with a lemonade or two. Fancy becoming a match official - and have the course paid for? Cents chairman Brian Parker said "The team have a 'spare' weekend on that date and are looking forward to travelling up to Crosfields Rugby Club in Warrington to take on the Army. We have played them several times over the last few years and they are a good bunch of lads. We hope to do The Cents, and southern rugby league, proud." The hosts of the event, Crosfields RLFC have said that this festival, now in its seventh year, has without doubt become the biggest amateur Rugby League event in the UK with more than 5000 people attending in 2015. There will be army and rugby league stalls, b-b-q's and food outlets, and of course, beer tents and much, much more. Crosfields are also famous for their after match hospitality and celebrations, which have become legendary affairs; from Fijian hymns where you can hear a pin drop to HaKa War cries, to the forging of inter club friendships that will last a lifetime. More details about this event will be made nearer the time, so get that date marked in your diary. St Albans Centurions are to celebrate their 20th anniversary day by playing a double header at their Toulmin Drive home ground on 14th May. Following this with a 2.30pm kick off will be the St Albans Centurions first team playing their first home game of the current season against Hemel Stags 'A', who, incidentally, were the first team that the Cents played 20 years ago in the old London League. Following the games, the clubhouse will be open for refreshments, and it is hoped that friends, family and a few of our 'old timers' will pop in for a bit of a catch up and a 'social' to celebrate 20 glorious years of St Albans Centurions Rugby League team. Several other events to celebrate our 20th anniversary are in the pipeline, and these will be announced shortly. Announcing their first game of the season, St Albans Centurions Masters will be taking on the London and Down South (LaDS) Masters Team in celebration of 20 years of Rugby League in St Albans. The game kicks off at 12.30pm on Saturday 14th May as a curtain raiser to the St Albans Centurions versus Hemel Stags game.
