The Rugby Football League is set to launch a new community league for 2019, classed as a Tier 4 competition, for the best community clubs from the south of England and Wales.
The Southern Conference League will feature 14 teams for the 2019 season, following an application process occurring in late 2018. The league will see clubs from Cardiff to Colchester compete for the right to be named 2019 Champion. The league will be split into two divisions, with one in the East and the other in the West. Top clubs from both divisions will then compete against one another in the end of season play-offs to be crowned overall 2019 Southern Conference League Champions. The idea behind the league is to provide competitive playing opportunities for the best clubs within southern regional leagues on a weekly basis. It will provide a more intense and longer playing season for all clubs involved. The 14 clubs participating with the Southern Conference League in 2019 are: Western Division: All Golds (Gloucestershire) Cardiff Blue Dragons Swindon St George Torfaen Tigers Valley Cougars Eastern Division: Bedford Tigers Brixton Bulls Eastern Rhinos Hammersmith Hills Hoists Hemel Stags London Chargers North Herts Crusaders South London Silverbacks Wests Warriors With two teams from our East League and all of all the teams in the London League moving into this new set up, we are waiting to see what the make up will be of our East League for 2019. We should know what is happening in the New Year, and as soon as we do, we will let you know. Len McMain, Centurions committee member and club physio now has another string to his bow, world wide rugby league pundit. Len appeared on todays BBC Radio 3 Counties sports programme between 5pm-6pm talking about a varied bag of topics such as Red Star Belgrade in the Challenge Cup, Serbian rugby league and Jamaica qualifying for the World Cup in England in 2021.
Well done to Len for spreading the word. Very brief update from last nights committee meeting -
Gary Tetlow this seasons U14's coach came along and gave an uplifting account of the junior situation. He gets so many players coming along to training that next season he is considering running U15 and U16 teams. The club hopes to help him by trying to find some help in the shape of assistant coaches, volunteers etc. It looks like the RFL will be forming a Tier 4, two league (East & West) National Conference South League. They have approached all the clubs in the London Premiership and the four clubs that appeared in the East Premiership Grand Final and London League 1 Grand Final and asked them to consider joining the Nat Conf South (East) league. December 8th is the date they will be announcing the make up of the leagues. The Cents will be staying in the East League next season, but announced their intention of a 2 year plan to get into the National Conference South by 2021. A number of players attended a players only meeting last month with team manager Tony Bottomley and put forward ideas and recommendation to the committee. We were glad to accept the following suggestions - the signing on fee will be £125 per player and cover all costs and stash, there will be no match day fee, students will pay £50, the strict 'no pay no play' rule will be continued, and there will be a social event on the registration evening, and social events after pre, middle and end of season home games. We are looking to get a covered venue for pre season training and dates of preseason and registration evening will be posted on here as soon as arranged. Further discussion included, club finances, strip, equipment, recruitment etc. Our yearly AGM will be held in February - date to be confirmed. Remember - as soon as we know anything, it will be posted here. |
