East Rugby League Play Off Semi Final
Hemel Stags 38 -v- 30 St Albans Centurions The mighty Cents put in a monumental effort with injury and work commitments limiting the squad to only 13 for the match at arch rivals Hemel Stags in the East RL Premier play off semi final. The Stags had finished top of the league after a storming season, giving them home advantage. However, the Centurions almost upset the odds going in at half time 18-10 up. The Stags were eventually able to take advantage with their 18 man squad and against the tiring Cents defence, ran in two late tries to make the final score 38-30. Here's a comment on Facebook, from a Cents committee member....,The game yesterday was unbelievable. Last game of the season and due to holidays, work etc., we could only travel with thirteen players, and out of those thirteen, two were seventeen year olds , two were over 35 and one player got out of his sick bed to play for us. I don't mind saying, I was expecting us to be on the receiving end of a right walloping - but was I wrong. I have never seen a team play with so much passion and guts - no substitutes, no rest - against a very good Hemel squad of 18 players. The team ran themselves ragged ... and just kept going. With ten minutes left and in the lead, the lads just could not keep the opposition out and they ran in two tries in the last eight minutes. The committee would just like to thank those thirteen players for their commitment. The photos from that exceptional game are now on our photo website https://sacents.smugmug.com/ And so the 2017 season comes to an end with a gutsy performance. Eyes now turn to the end of season presentation evening and "drinks" on August 19th. Comments are closed.
