The Aviva Community Fund offers your club the chance to get extra funding. The club has to tell Aviva what a difference these much-needed funds could make to the club, and if we get enough votes from friends, family and supporters then our project could be entered into the Finals, where a judging panel will award the funds.
Aviva say "We believe good projects come in all shapes and sizes. So the best way to support a variety of good causes is to let both large and small projects share the funding. The Aviva Community Fund will finance over 500 projects across four different fund levels and four categories, giving our awards to communities throughout the UK. If your application gets enough votes and wows our judges, it will be in with a chance of receiving those much-needed funds." The Aviva website also says "Once voting opens on 24 October 2017, start sharing your project with as many friends, family and community supporters as possible to get their votes. The projects with the most votes will become finalists. Anyone who lives in the UK and registers on the Aviva Community Fund website can vote for their projects between 24 October and 21 November. You don’t have to have submitted a project to vote. You'll get 10 votes which you can use at any time during the voting phase of the competition. You can support as many projects as you like with your votes." Cents chairman Andy Lake has put together and submitted the clubs application as follows :- St. Albans Centurions is a community focused amateur rugby league club which has provided players the opportunity to play rugby league in Hertfordshire since 1996. With very few rugby league clubs in the south of England, it provides a valuable chance for the community in Hertfordshire to get to know this challenging but inclusive game. The club is proud to have supported the local community for the past twenty-two years by: - Promoting health and fitness in 1250 players since the club started. In addition to weekly matches over the summer months, we also hold training sessions each week which teach specialist rugby skills and increase our players fitness. - Bringing together players of various ages and backgrounds and encouraging friendships amongst these groups. - Providing new skills and a hobby to three age groups; the under 15s, the first team and our Masters (players over the age of 35). - Holding regular social events and an end of year awards ceremony, driving footfall in to our club house which is housed by a local social club. - Increasing publicity for rugby league in our area by maintaining a popular club website, creating a strong following on social media and receiving weekly coverage in our local paper (the Herts Advertiser). - For those who would like to help off the pitch we offer many volunteering opportunities from committee positions to water runners; all vital positions to support our club. As a competitive club we have many honours to our name. In 2017 we were the London League Champions and finalists in the East Rugby League Cup. We have supported many of our players to continue to a representative level; we’ve sent players off to play for England Lionhearts, Great Britain Community Lions, Ireland Wolfhounds, Scotland Bravehearts and East of England Under 20’s Squad and many more. Aside from membership fees, St Albans Centurions is completely reliant on public donations to maintain this level of service to our players and community. We are proud to have maintained our membership fees for our players at the same rate for the last three years. This is vital to make the club accessible to our members and allow us to provide our service to the whole community. A grant from Aviva to cover the costs of our equipment and allow us to maintain our membership fees for another year, meaning many of our players will be able to return and will encourage new players to join the club. The more players we can recruit, the more we can encourage health and fitness in the local community. The more players we have, the higher our chances of having a winning season and keeping our players spirits high to come back in 2019! We're asking for £1000 to cover the cost of training balls, match day balls, water bottles and carriers for all three teams to make use of.
